Security

When the operation of the container terminals was privatised in 2004, Government had kept this function under the arms of the Malta Freeport Corporation. The Port can boast of an excellent track record in this respect which is of the utmost importance especially when considering that the bulk of the business at the Freeport is transhipment business.

The Corporation today employs a compliment of 100 Security Controllers whose training is on-going. They are well versed with the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code). Their main duties include controlling access at all gates leading to the separate facilities, patrolling the area on a regular basis to make sure containers are not tampered with, handling of crews leaving and joining vessels in collaboration with Immigration Police and monitoring of all areas through an extensive CCTV Control Room.
