A landmark agreement was signed between Malta Freeport, MFTL and Sport Malta whereby lands presently pertaining to the Freeport were formally transferred to Sport Malta to be able to pass these on to Birżebbuġa Sailing Club and Birżebbuġa Regatta Club.
These lands transferred are crucial to the professional development of both sporting disciplines so that Maltese athletes can aim for international as well as local successes.
The agreement was sealed in the presence of Minister of Tourism Konrad Mizzi, Minister for Transport Ian Borg and Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clifton Grima.
All three members of parliament commended this agreement and emphasised the importance that Birzebbugia youngsters were given opportunities offered by both clubs for their development.
Malta Freeport CEO David Magro stated that this agreement ensures that the disused area which used to serve as a parking area for the Freeport can now be used for a good cause.
