Visit by a delegation from Misurata Freezone at Freeport

A delegation from the Free Zone of Misurata port visited Malta Freeport on Monday 8th March 2021.

The delegation was given an overview of Malta Freeport by David Magro CEO.  An interesting discussion followed during which Ing. Muhsin Sigutri, Chairman of Misurata Freezone stated that they were entrusted to regenerate Misurata into an international hub for transhipment. They handled 400,000 TEUs during the past year which represents 60% of the local market passing through all ports in Libya.

Both sides discussed possible ways of sharing best practice on certain areas and discussions will continue between them.

The delegation had the opportunity to be shown around the security operations and was given a detailed explanation regarding security arrangements and procedures. They also toured Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and visited the Customs compound and scanning facility.

Mr. Brian Zahra, Consul from the Embassy of Malta in Tripoli accompanied the Misurata port delegation.
